============================== Bar-Ilan Combinatorics Seminar ============================== The next meeting of the seminar will take place, IYH, on (when) Tuesday, 11 Iyar (May 5) 12:00-13:30 (where) Room 201 (Math Dept Seminar Room), Math and CS Building (216), Bar-Ilan University (who) Dalia Krieger (Weizmann Institute of Science) will talk about (what) "On Stabilizers of Infinite Words" Abstract: Combinatorics on words involves the study of combinatorial, arithmetical and geometrical aspects of finite or infinite sequences ("words"), defined over finite sets of symbols ("alphabet"). Research in the area was initiated a hundred years ago by the Norwegian mathematician Axel Thue, who studied repetitions in finite and infinite words. Since then, Combinatorics on words has become an active research area, with applications in various fields of mathematics and computer science, as well as physics and biology. The current talk is concerned with combinatorial properties of infinite words, in particular morphic words. In the first part of the talk I will introduce the subject, and give examples of the kind of problems studied. In the second part, I'll discuss \emph{stabilizers} of infinite words, that is, the monoid of morphisms that fix a given infinite word. No previous knowledge is assumed. ************************************************************************* You are all invited !
