Differential Geometry (88-826)
This is the graduate differential geometry. It is a two-hour-a-week,
one-semester course, which is unfortunately not really sufficient to even
cover the basic topics.
Typically I cover (1) the notion of a manifold,
examples, embeddings, immersions, canonical forms, (2) the tangent
bundle, vector fields, the cotangent bundle, and then either (3) Riemannian
metrics, connections and curvature, or (4) differential forms,
integration and Stokes' theorem.
Students beware! Depending on what I teach in your year, the exams
posted below may or may not be appropriate for you. Similarly I
change exercise sets from year to year; only the first two exercise
sets from 1995/6 appear below.
